Core Systems & Gameplay Changes
Black Ops 7 refines its formula with improvements to movement, visuals, and progression while maintaining the tone and pacing that define the series.
The movement system evolves from the “omnimovement” introduced in BO6, adding wall-jump boosts and smoother transitions between actions. The redesigned HUD and UI adopt a cleaner, futuristic style reminiscent of Black Ops 2 — a deliberate nod to Treyarch’s roots.
At launch, players will have access to 30 weapons — 16 brand new and 14 returning classics like the Peacekeeper and M8A4. For the first time, you can share weapon builds using an in-game code system, letting others instantly copy your exact setup.
Carry Forward will not be available at launch, but will return with Season 1, allowing all Black Ops 6 weapons, camos, and operators to be used in BO7.
Progression & Mastery System
Progression in Black Ops 7 unites every mode — campaign, multiplayer, and zombies — under one shared system. Player levels and prestige ranks carry over across all activities.
Weapons can also be prestiged multiple times, resetting levels to unlock:
- Unique camos
- “Aftermarket” attachments
- Weapon charms
- A Master Prestige chase camo at max level
Mastery Camos Breakdown
| Mode | # of Mastery Camos | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Campaign | 4 | Includes exclusive campaign challenges |
| Multiplayer | 4 | Includes Shattered Gold camo |
| Zombies | 4 | Round-based unlocks and easter-egg objectives |
| Warzone | 4 | Available in Season 1 update |
Each weapon can earn three prestige camos and contribute toward the total of 16 mastery camos across all game modes.
Multiplayer Overview
Maps & Modes
At launch, 16 maps will be available — 13 new and 3 remastered classics set in a futuristic Tokyo-inspired environment:
| Remastered Map | New Setting |
|---|---|
| Raid | High-rise district |
| Hijacked | Dockyard location |
| Express | Updated with bullet train system |
Tactical sprint has been removed by default but can be restored through perks. Players cannot aim down sights while sliding, diving, or wall-jumping unless a specific perk is equipped.
Scorestreaks have been reworked to mirror the Black Ops 3 system, featuring returning favorites like the Hunter Killer Drone, VTOL Warship, and Hellstorm, plus new additions like:
- “Dog” – an armored ground vehicle with rocket pods
- “Grave Maker” – reveals enemies through walls
- “Rhino” – a controllable drop-in robot
Multiplayer also introduces Overclocks, a system that upgrades lethals, tacticals, and field upgrades through active use, unlocking faster recharge times and added effects.
Finally, a large-scale 20v20 mode titled Skirmish makes its debut, featuring wingsuits, a combat roll mechanic, and looping scorestreaks for continuous killstreak progression.
Campaign: Co-op, Progression & Endgame
The campaign acts as a direct sequel to both Black Ops 2 and 6, set in 2035 with Raul Menendez once again serving as the antagonist. Players can take on the roles of David Mason, Eric Samuels, Mike Harper, or “50/50”, either solo or in four-player co-op.
There’s no traditional difficulty selector — instead, the game scales dynamically depending on team size, making four-player runs the most challenging.
Progression carries over directly to global leveling, allowing campaign play to grant XP, weapon levels, and prestige ranks. Completing campaign challenges can also unlock camos usable in other modes.
After finishing the story, players unlock a new endgame mode — a 32-player co-op experience set on the open-world map Avalon. This post-campaign mode mixes elements of DMZ and Modern Warfare Zombies, with multiple enemy types, contracts, and tiered difficulty zones. Players can lose progress upon death but retain extracted upgrades between sessions.
Zombies Mode
Zombies in Black Ops 7 expands the round-based formula with larger maps and story continuity. The main launch map is a reimagined version of Transit, divided into a central hub and six time-themed POIs.
Each area is linked by fog-covered roads with unique challenges and secrets. To navigate more safely, players can use the new Wonder Vehicle — a customizable 4×4 that can be upgraded with Wonder Weapon turrets or monster-based armor plating.
Alongside the main map, classic survival maps like Farm will return, stripped down for pure round-based gameplay. Additional survival maps and DLC variants are planned for later seasons.
The playable cast includes two full teams:
- Requiem Crew (Maya, Carver, Gray, Weaver)
- Dark Aether Crew (new versions of Richtofen, Dempsey, Takeo, and Nikolai)
Gameplay continues the BO6 systems — including armor plating, crafting, and perk upgrades — while adding new cinematic cutscenes and cooperative emphasis. Dead Ops Arcade 4 also returns, now with new bosses and shared progression across all modes.
Warzone Integration
Warzone remains the shared hub connecting all current Call of Duty titles. It will include weapons and operators from Modern Warfare 2, 3, Black Ops 6, and 7, with a new mastery camo grind dedicated to BO7’s arsenal.
Season 1 will officially merge all Black Ops 7 content into Warzone’s rotation, ensuring ongoing compatibility and cross-title continuity.
